    This is an article, titled "Toward New Sculpture," by Zhang Qing, editor of special column, "Issues of Sculpture in China," on "Art Gallery" magazine (issue and year unknow, but should be in the 1990s), about contemporary Chinese sculpture. Starting with the origin of Chinese contemporary sculpture, the article analyzes the characteristics of Chinese academician sculpture and the divergence from Western contemporary art. Then the author concludes the challenges the field faced, such as internationalization, localization, and the impact of installation art and market economy. At the same time the the situation of sculpture in China. seems promising to the author because many young artists are exploring new art language, form and methodologies and expanding the boundary of sculpture.     YE Shuang-gui's "Consuming Virus" is an action art project. This project includes a few cooperative parts, such as consumers, setup, "virus", and the cook, namely, the artist himself. Ceramics were transformed into dishes with virus characteristics. These PDF documents contains photographs from the event. As seen in the photos, the artist displayed the process of transforming "Virus" into cakes, which were then served to customers with beverages and other foods. (Zhuocheng Jiang '26)

    This document was scripted in English by Monica Dematte on December 22nd, 1993 in Guangzhou, China. It discussed the third art event, which happened on November 24th, 1993, by the “Big Tail Elephant” group. The activity consisted of “Five Hours” by Chen Shaoxiong, “Allegory of Love” by Xu Tan, and “100 pieces and 1000 pieces” by Lin Yilin. Dematte talked about the meaning, the artistic significance, the response of the public, and the correlations among these three works in the essay. She concluded by pointing out that the “Big Tail Elephant” group’s goal of art-making was to create an imperfect, yet forceful artwork. (Yifan Shang ‘25)
