    On November 2nd, 1996, art critic Fei Dawei sent from his Paris home a fax to Zhou Yan. In his letter, Fei describes his plans for the 22nd and 23rd. which involve four Chinese artists also based in France: Yang Jie-Chang, Huang Yong-Ping, Yan Pei-Ming, and Chen Zhen. The critic also repeatedly mentions a woman named "Julia", referring to Julia Brown, an art curator. He tells Zhou that he is planning to meet a Taiwanese artist whom Julia has introduced to him. The letter ends with Fei's request for Zhou Yan to fax Julia and tell him what she says.

The event, “Meet the Artist,” was a program in conjunction with Cai Guo-qiang’s exhibition, "Cultural Melting Bath: Projects for the 20th Century." The program included a panel discussion with the artist, Cai Guo-qiang, and various other directors and consultants associated with the museum, followed by a reception and bathing demonstration.
