Description

The "Luminaries" series was created over the period from 2013 to 2015. Compared to her previous artwork, Fairies, which black ink on the light brown paper, the artist used white acrylic paint on black paper, which breaks the traditional medium and manner of ink painting. She used the refined brushwork, lines, and dots to create contrast between the dark and light and emphasize the luminous creatures. The artwork not only explores the materialization of imagined life, but also joins poetry on the back of every image. The poetry was created in the poetry slam held by the artist. The audience wrote the poetry, and the artist matches it to each creature. For example, 汝 Ru (Quiet Waters), "You invented air/Because it knows no dampness"; 淢 Yu (Hidden Flow), "Rapids, marvelously, pregnant with a mellow son/He sees the world as flowing white elephants"; 湫 Qiu (Deep Pool), "It sank downward under giant clauds/I have never been there/I have never left/It is a place for the absence and presence of self/Go on through the waves/I just drop by". Every creature’s Chinese title includes the water radical, 氵. And connecting to the image gives people a feeling of being in water. (Sources: Amjad MajidSee.
