Description
To accomplish this project, the artist camped for three days inside a dilapidated pavilion in the Forbidden City, Beijing, China with a small bed, tape recorder, and camera. The pavilion was in such a state of ruin that it was scheduled to undergo a massive renovation effort that would finish the following autumn. During his three-day stay the artist took pictures of the pavilion from all angles and invited peers to observe its state. After the renovation, the artist placed the images in the exact spot in which they were taken and invited more visitors to observe the transformation. The object of this project was to highlight change and the temporal movement from the ancient to the contemporary. Wang then presented documentation of this work in a solo exhibition at File No. 1 -- Conceptual Documents for Impossible Arts (New York, Soho Biennial '95) in Soho, New York.
