Description
A figure in white is depicted in the center surrounded by several traditional Chinese wooden chairs. This person sits cross-legged and his/her face is covered by a book, held by his left hand. In the background, the artist filled the space with light and dark brown. Some pink fog is blended in the air, adding a layer of mysterious and erotic atmosphere in the painting. At the edges, there is a curtain that has depictions of scenes of people’s daily lives, including kids playing in the backyard and adults having sex in the inner chambers. This depiction may be inspired by the Ming and Qing dynasties’ woodblock printings. (Yifan Shang ‘25)
