Abstract
Adiabatic compression offers an alternative to DTA and DSC for the measurement of the latent heat of the gel/liquid crystal phase transition in phospholipid bilayers. The method is considered in some detail. Results on DiYlPC, DPPC, DSPC, and DPPE at atmospheric pressure are basically in agreement with the literature. Howev er changes are observed at higher pressures in this experiment up to 1000 bars.
