My dear Sir,
I thank you for the perusal of the excellent and consolatory letter of the worthy Bishop Owen -- full of comfort in making the communication to you that your dear Son departed in the true faith of the Redeemer and the blessed assurance of the resurrection to life eternal; a subject indeed of rejoicing and praise to you tho’ of sorrow for the great loss you sustain in the bereavement. May our gracious Lord continue to you His support and lighten this and all the afflictions He may please to lay upon you and cause them (as to a certainty He will do) to work together for your eternal good:
Your’s my dear Sir
Most sincerely
and affectionately
Gambier.
