Description
Hanging Man in Porcelain is a sculpture created by Ai Weiwei in 2009. This work features a silver clothes hanger bent into the side profile of French artist Marcel Duchamp, placed upon a white porcelain surface and displayed within a traditional Chinese wooden frame. The additional file below also includes Ai Weiwei’s earlier work Profile of Duchamp, Sunflower Seeds (1983), in which a similarly shaped wire hanger is combined with sunflower seed shells. Both sculptures reflect Duchamp’s influence on Ai Weiwei’s artistic concepts, particularly the concept of the “readymade,” which challenges traditional definitions of art by transforming everyday objects into artworks.
