Description
"Stools" consists of 6000 traditional wooden stools collected from China. The "traditional" here means this type of stool has been used in the Chinese countryside for hundreds of years, since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Ai Weiwei once again adopts a kind of serialist approach, using repetitive arrangement to bring stools marked by traces of wear together into a large, almost pixel like whole. According to Ai Weiwei, these stools are an expression of the centuries old aesthetic of rural China.
