Description

This artwork is composed of eight panels joined together to form a single panoramic depiction of the Taihang Mountains. The artist painted across multiple panels simultaneously, so that each panel can stand alone while also connecting with the others. Blank space is left only at the top of the image. By controlling the density and diffuseness of the ink, the artist presents the ink to gradually lighten from bottom to top, and the mountain contours shift from realistic at the base to blurry and rough outlines above. This creates a sense of spatial depth, evoking the mood of mountains stretching on into the distance. The artist did not rely on traditional outlining brushwork to shape the mountains. Instead, the ink was left to bleed and diffuse naturally. This forms a sense of layered accumulation. (Angela Tan '28)
