Description
The artist uses diffusion and controlled ink density to blur the boundaries between the rocks and the surrounding space. It creates an unstable and flowing effect. The use of blank space creates a strong contrast between the heavy mountain forms on both sides and the empty center. Additionally, she adopts a horizontal scroll composition, placing the two shores at opposite ends. As the viewer’s eyes move across the scroll, it creates a sense of “crossing.” This supports the work’s theme that the “shore” of perfect enlightenment and the “shore” of human suffering are the same and cannot be separated.
