Description
In the series, the artist conceived eight views that represent modes of phenomenal experience accessible to the human mind. Waterfalls Cascading on Jade Mountains The composition centers on a single form — seems like mountain rock and some kind of living presence. The artist modulates ink density and uses curving lines that suggest the momentum of flowing water. The Rainy Mountains of Bewilderment This work continues the refined control of ink, layering vertical strokes over dense washes. It suggests rain cascading down and makes the mountain grow blurred. Wintry Forest with Double Trees Two bare trees stand at the edge of a cliff, while a few brushstrokes trace the distant mountain ridge. The expansive use of blank space deepens the sense of solitude. Flying Waters Falling into Deep Mountains The artist layers up ink to render a landscape of deep, overlapping gorges. Then she draws the trace of water along the valley, creating a sense of boundlessness. Moon River with Level Mountains Light ink is applied at the top and bottom, while a broad expanse of white is left open in the center, which evokes moonlight. Jade Valley with Mysterious Woods Masses of ink accumulate without clear contour, yet carry a strong sense of expansion. The Hilly Forest Hidden in a Lake The left side traces the undulating ridgeline of the mountains, while the ink mass on the right blurs. The blank space seems like a lake. Autumn Twilight in the West Mountains Dense ink rolls and folds across the surface, making a feeling of flourishing chaos. (Angela Tan 28’)
