Description

This artwork was created in 1984. And the Gaokao, which is an annual National College Entrance Examination in China, resumed in 1977. Set against the backdrop of the early stage of reform and opening up, it depicts the scene of college students' classroom study after the resumption of the Gaokao. Connect to the title, "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" also indicates that we experienced suffering yesterday, we are studying with great passion and effort today, and we will have a bright tomorrow. Through a group of characters, it shows the youth's eagerness and commitment to learning. It reflects the urgent need for knowledge among people at the early stage of social transformation. Fun fact: Bei is an artist who studied at CAFA, so the figures he painted are mainly CAFA students. For instance, the second from the bottom in the back row is Teng Fei, and the second one from the top in the same row is Yan Zhou. (Angela Tan '28)
