Description
This piece is an example of artist's characteristic "Scar Painting", which often depicted the toilsome daily life of the Tibetan people during the Cultural Revolution. In this painting, a young girl sits at a windowsill with her face turned away from the light. Most of her face is in shadow and she shows a sullen expression. A sheepskin drapes over her front. The whole scene appears bleak and gray. The rest of the room outside the reach of the window light is submerged in darkness. The title of this painting, "The Singing Voices Fade Away From Me", also adds to the sullen and lonely mood. (Nicole Wang '26)
