Description
The artwork depicts images of Deng Xiaoping, the former paramount leader of China. The images and decorative patterns differ from piece to piece. However, four paintings had analogous colors and compositions. The artist was inspired to create pop art by Andy Warhol, however this pieces differs from his major political pop art, the "Mao series". In the 1980s and 1990s, the artist shifted from abstract painting to Political Pop. The "Circle" and "Mao" series respectively represent two phrases that are dramatically distinct in terms of subject, aesthetics, and approaches. However, in this piece, the artist combines dots and lines from the "Circle" series with images of Deng Xiaoping, seemingly integrating two phases into one (Zhuocheng Jiang ’26)
