Oil painting
Description
This oil painting depicts a woman sleeping with a foreshortened perspective in vibrant warm colors. It could be an homage to women's bodies as Yang is not afraid to paint the realistic texture and irregularity of human bodies. It appears to scream comfort and luxury as the woman is shown to be sleeping deeply on top of an abundance of bedding. Sleeping women are common subjects of the artist's paintings. She chooses to paint them with different expressions, color palettes, and in different positions that each tell distinct and unique narratives. Behind the image of the painting, there is another image of a wooden structure. While hidden, this begs the question of the intentionality behind incorporating a collage aspect. Similar paintings of Yang's seem to include collaging with images of wooden structures. These images are always behind the image of the painting. (Nicole Wang '26).
