Description
Pink texts are printed at the back of this invitation postcard which indicates the basic information of an exhibition “please don’t move”. The exhibition was held under the co-authorship of Wu Shanzhuan and Inga Svala Thorsdottir at Bahnwärterhaus, Galerie der Stadt Esslingen in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, May to July 1996. (‘PLEASE DON’T MOVE’, ASIA ART ARCHIVE, https://aaa.org.hk/en/collections/search/library/please-dont-move). In the front, a made-up company name, “‘please don’t move’ Ltd” is printed at the top. Several pink symbols that represent mankind are arranged in the way of an eye chart. Starting from the first row, these symbols become smaller as the row goes down. There are four different directions of them: up, down, left and right. Every symbol that points up has a white question mark designed in it. As Wu points out in his artist note, “mankind is a wall between all other animals — a cow, a person with a question mark, and a horse” (Wu Shanzhuan, “Today No Water - The Power of Ignorance”, “please don’t move”, p28) Thus, these pink signs that symbolize mankind is created and printed at the front of the invitation card for the exhibition “please don’t move”.
