Description
The work “Drinking Water” was photographed by Peter Meyer in Hamburg in 1993, under the direction of Wu Shanzhuan and Inga Svala Thorsdottir. It was displayed in the exhibition titled ”Bird before peace” and is included in “Wu Shan Zhuan, Red Humour International” series. The artist Inga Svala Thórsdóttir is photographed in a chromophotograph. She stands by a sink in the kitchen and drinks a glass of water while there is water running from the faucet. As Joni Low argues in her review, “What Wu discovered through these artistic processes was that the meaning of art resides not in the art object, or the artist, but in the context and the experience itself.” Wu has the approach towards the Daoist idea of “the art is merely a container to hold concepts”. Thus, he creates work like “Drinking Water” that is about everyday life, but it is profound because of its simplicity (Joni Low, “Symphony of Riddles: Wu Shanzhuan: Red Humour International”.
