Description

This series of artwork contains three oil paintings. A red wall is painted at the bottom of each, the rest of the painting space is divided into five sections. Sections include elements like the yellow book cover of "The Golden Lotus" (金瓶梅), the Chinese soldiers and athletes, and views of the Tiananmen Square. At the center of these paintings, a portrait of Marilyn Monroe, a famous American actress, is painted in black, white and red. By combining opposing concepts such as past and present, the figurative and the abstract, Wei represents these as fluid, heterogeneous concepts that cannot be viewed in isolation (WEI GUANGQING, ShanghART 香格纳画廊) .
