Description
This huge poster is formed by twenty newspapers stitched together. On the bottom of the paper, the sentence “SHANGHAI: ASIA’S TOP CITY of the FUTURE?” is written with red gouache. This sentence was a quote from the August 8, 1994, cover of Newsweek. The Chinese characters written in ink say “The courtesan of the end of Qing dynasty has great taste in fashion, attracting the public following the trend”, which was paraphrased from the book ‘The Prosperity of Modern Shanghai’, page 241. In the center, the various color squares form a woman lying on a chaise.(Hao Yang’25)
