My dear Bp.
I was well pleased with your arrangement of the President’s Proclamation &c. The parish here has purchased + paid for a [parsonage] at $4800 every [cent] discharged. [?] we shall have a real Church. Mr Bowler promises $3000 + a stained glass windows, at the East end. Another [?] of the Congregation (Mr. [Probaia’s] brother in law) $2000 for the organ, front + other insides. I have seen about the [?] It will be very light, not [?] than one in fourteen.
The Provost Marshall have promised me every and in getting substituted at the lowest price + say many apply to be substitutes. I doubt whether we shall have more than two to look after, + probably the cost of substitutes for both will not exceed $300. I have asked Mr. [Mormon] to put a notice in the paper requesting a drafted clergyman at once to inform me. I wish you would see as soon as possible whether any name is to be made about Dr. [Sumthe]. I was sorry to see that Dr. Dyer’s house was entered by the [mob??].
Yours affectionately
