(Mt. Vernon, Ohio) By Irene Sharp A son was born Saturday in Mercy hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fred White, 400 Greenwood ave. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hayes of Marion st. were in Columbus Sunday visiting Mrs. Irma Lawson and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chancellor of N. Rogers st., and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sharp of W. Chestnut st. were in Newark Sunday. Miss Laverne Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Peterson, 117 Pennsylvania ave., left Tuesday evening for Washington D.C., where she has accepted a government position. Cpl. Lester D. Martin is now in the Hawaiian Islands and wrote his mother, Mrs. Walter Mayo, 205 Walnut st., that he is well and attended a ball game in Honolulu recently. William Morton and Mrs. Dana Jones returned Sunday from a week's visit with Mrs. Henry Webster, Kennette Sq, Pa. They were accompanied east by Mrs. Morton who remained to spend a few weeks with relatives. David Payne, Wilburforce university, arrived Sunday to spend the summer vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Payne of W. Chestnut st.
