Abstract
An elliptic curve is the set of zeros of a non-singular cubic polynomial in x and y. Throughout this paper, we will consider cubics with rational coefficients because our overarching goal is to describe the rational points on elliptic curves. To do this, we impose a group structure on the curve. The properties of this group will be the focus of the rest of this paper.
