Abstract
Presented here are our efforts to develop two novel methodologies for the preparation of molecules containing the cyclopenta[c]pyridine substructure. The scope and limitations of both methods are scrutinized by the evaluation of a series of substrates with methyl substitution at different positions on the resulting bicyclic framework. Additionally, the application of the two novel methodologies toward natural product synthesis is demonstrated by the formal synthesis of louisianin C and D.
