Abstract
An Undoing is made up of three ghost stories—The Drive, Magpie, and Vigil. In The Drive, a college student faces her ex-best friend. The Magpie is about a woman picking through the remains of her cabin after a fire. And Vigil centers on the unlikely connection between two strangers. The collection considers the ghost story as a way into examining grief and memory. Themes like abandonment, absence, and guilt appear throughout the stories, as characters face their regrets and come to terms with loss. In the end, these stories revolve around people walking in the river of grief, a river we will all find ourselves in at some point. With this in mind, dear reader, I hope you find a piece of yourself here. Maybe a memory or recognition to carry with you off the page.
