My dear sir
I have perused with much interest the papers relative to Mr. West and forward them by this day’s post to Mr. Babington. I thank you much for the sight of them -- Mr. West is precisely a man of the character that Bishop Chase will be most happy to have as a co-adjutor from this country - he expressed his wish to me soon after his return to his Diocese to have some such [zealous] and pious Ministers of the Gospel as Mr. West I have no doubt will prove himself to be, to assist him in the excellent work in which he is engaged, and the hand of his divine Master is lead ing such a one to me, indeed through the whole of the good Bishop’s proceeding both in this country and America in his pious work, the same hand his [sic] been remarkably visible, and the persons who are going to settle in his Diocese seem to be of a discription [sic] that he will be delighted to have, and will promote his views.
I remain my dear Sir sincerely and with great regard
your humble servant & friend
Gambier.
