To Mrs S.M. Chase
Very Dear Mada
Just as I was leaving Peoria Mr John Burket spoke to me about an application for aid to enable Philander to build his Church at Arcadia. He said he would be very glad to assist him but at present he had no money
He directed me to enclose to you the accompanying [check] for $100 dated Feb 5th 1850 from Rev J.G. Chamberlain and say that any avails which might arise from it should be applied to those purposes
He also said that he was willing to do more and that he would give Lots 2 & 3 in Block 125 of Birkets addition to Peoria provided the Church was completed in two years
He said he wished to give these Lots for the use fo the Church; and in the event of the Church of Arcadia being completed withing the specified time, viz, two years he desired to give the Lord for that purpose but foiling that he wished them to go to the benefit of Jubilee College
He desired be to write [as] [above] to you and I [impose] the first opportunity to do so
I have been since I left home very busy engaged for the most part in visiting the sick in Hospitals
With kind regards I am most affectionately
Samuel Chase
