The Bulmash Family Holocaust Collection consists of images, documents, and artifacts related to the Holocaust. The collection contains materials that depict a number of topics that may be difficult for viewers to engage with, including: antisemitic descriptions, caricatures, and representation of Jewish people; Nazi imagery and ideology; descriptions and images of German ghettos; graphic images of the violence of the Holocaust; and the creation of the State of Israel. For more information, see our policy page.
Description
Front: Black and white photograph of three figures. On the left is a smiling boy in rags with bare feet and wearing a cap. A young woman with bare feet a dirty skirt stands in the middle. Next to her is an older man dressed in all black and holding a cane. All wear armbands on their right arm. Behind them are two men, one with a cap, another with a suit and armband.
Information Provided by Michael D. Bulmash: Photograph taken in all probability by a German photographer in the Warsaw Ghetto, the largest Ghetto created by the Nazis, who doubtless saw these Jews--posed as they were--as curiosities, especially as they confirmed archetypes created by Nazi media.
