Description
This is a book of photographs published by the Internationaler Gewerkschaftsbund (Internationa Federation of Trade Unions). The photographs were taken from Ernt Friedrich’s book Krieg dem Kriege (War against War). The second volume of Krief dem Kriege can be viewed in the collection here (2026.5). The cover artwork is by Käthe Kollwitz.
The Preface of this book states that it was intended to be a “warning” for the “new generation… which has not known in its own person the abominations of the World War.” Members of the “great family of Labour represented by the Internaional Federation of Trade Unions” were encouraged to “spread abroad this little book and its world message of War against War” (7). The text is written in six languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Dutch, and Danish. A fourth edition of this book, published in 1934 in Paris, can be found at the University of Warwick’s Digital Collections.
