Description

This report introduces various works by contemporary Chinese artists in the 1990s and how performance arts like Zhang Huan’s “12 Square Meters” attempt to resist “ideological pressure” from the current political and economic environment. As stated by the reporter, performance art is considered as an effective way to show the artists’ fight for intellectual and artistic freedom. Artists use their own bodies to awaken the public’s awareness of human dignity. It was published in the French magazine “TECHNIKART N.18” in the issue May to June of 1995. (Yifan Shang ‘25)
