Description
Snake Ceiling (2009) is an installation by Ai Weiwei made from hundreds of children's backpacks connected to form a giant snake-like structure. The work was created in response to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province, China, during which thousands of students died when school buildings collapsed. Following this disaster, Ai launched a citizen investigation to identify the victims and questioned the government's handling of that tragedy.
