Description
The artist was involved in the East Village social art group in Beijing starting in the 1990s. After having been arrested twice for acts related to the group, the artist fell into a a depression that limited his ability to interact socially. From this experience he developed his "Communication" series where he would use his tongue to lick various objects and places. Touching objects with his tongue provided him with a new mode of both understanding his surroundings and leaving an impression. The first image is part of "Communication III" photo stream where droplets of water can be seen falling down his tongue from his open mouth. The second image is from "Communication IV" where he can be seen licking the ground outside of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China. (Source: https://cangxinart.com/). (Nicole Wang '26)
