Description

The Fairies series was created over the period from 2012 to 2015. It contains hundreds of pieces that explore the materialization of imagined life. It's a delicate visualization of this ontological conception. Drawing on a classical fan format, the artist transferred the playable structure into a contemporary imaging archive structure and compiled a large album. She used very fine, detailed brushwork to portray figurative and semi-figurative objects. It represents the shift from macro to micro, organic to non-organic, plants to animals, nature to culture. From a distance, those painting gives a vivid impression of a living organism as a whole. When the viewer comes closer, the whole will break down into tiny textures which evoke the image of tissue sections under a microscope. The “faires” are no longer exaggerated monsters, it's a hybrid of nature and artistic incarnations of a myriad of objects in the phenomenal world. The artist combines a microscopic ecosystem with the mysterious images in Chinese traditional culture to let people get in touch with nature and culture.
