Description

“Citizens’ Investigation” responds directly to the May 2008 Sichuan earthquake, in which the deaths of thousands of students caused by shoddily constructed school buildings were concealed by local authorities. The artist was motivated to reveal the true casualty disguised by authority. He published the names and ages of 5,386 students who had died in the collapse of poorly built schools. The final presentation of the project here consists of a wall of charts that display the information Ai Weiwei collected.
