Description

In this installation, four picture frames were hung on the wall. The frames were connected to wire headphone sets. Each picture frame contained a small black and white photograph of a couple. In the photographs the couples adorn Mao caps, pigtails, and bright smiles and their visual appearance suggested peasant backgrounds. In contrast to their innocent look, the attached headphones played audio of love-making. The aim of this installation was to challenge a society that represses emotional and sexual expression, which are both qualities innately human and recorded throughout history, with a feeling of unease. This installation is most commonly known as "Form of Reality" but is alternatively named "Noise of Make Love" by the artist.
