Description
This is a shot from a 30-minute video of the action art "Good Morning, Beijing", in which the artist Wang Jinsong and Xiaohong are openly provoking the passengers on bus No.103 and the surrounding mass in the Beihai Park. The two artists were handcuffed by themselves, eliciting various reactions from the passengers on the bus. It took place in Beijing in May 1994. After this action art, Xiaohong realized that some of his acquaintances (including W., who had played an active role in the work) tempted him to make judgements on their work based on the hollow concept of "art", rather than the correctness and the falseness of the action art itself. In order to defend his action and correct their false ideas, Xiaohong proposed another public provocation in cooperation with Z, titled "Correct Action!". This action art took place in the Menghuan video theatre of Beijing's Dahua Cinema on July 6th, 1994. The artist notes the important contribution that Z has made to preserve the correctness of "Correct Action!", and his optimistic attitude and unceasing will under heavy insult and a hefty fine. Z further received the highest award of the URARC----the "Golden Ink Bottle" award of 1994. (Yifan Shang'25)
