Mao Suit 中山装躯壳

Description

The "Mao Suit" series began in 1993 and was exhibited at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum under the title "Kong Ling Kong" (photos taken indoors). This project is a hybrid of installation art and sculpture. Zhan Wang studied in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, hence the work adheres to the realism tradition. However, the artist contorts the shell into a bizarre pose and suspends it in the air. Furthermore, the first installment of the series is titled "Temptation," in which all of the Mao Suit shells were installed at desolate or decaying locations. The footages in this piece appear to emanate a spooky sense. In a way, they are similar to historical footages, but the subjects are missing. (Zhuocheng Jiang '26)
