Description
This installation contained seven gilded pentagonal boxes with glass coverings placed along an apse in the museum. The boxes are topped by topographic replicas of various countries, seemingly made of plaster. The boxes contain different amounts of what seems to be a black, grainy, dirt-like substance. The identities of the countries are not all clear, but do seem to include China, Japan, the U.S, Germany, and possibly Tibet. The varying levels of dirt-like substance in the boxes may suggest a statement about pollution. However, the title suggests that this piece may have to do with the artist's relationship to his cultural and national identity. (Nicole Wang '26).
