Description

This installation piece was presented in the Galerie der Stadt Aschaffenberg in Aschaffenberg, Germany. The artist used his own hair collected during his time in Europe to create a wall mural of the streets of Berlin. In front of the mural, which is pasted on a wall in the apse of the museum, is a lightbox. Hair is a recurring motif in Yuan's creative career. The inspiration for using hair came from the time his long hair was shaven after joining the Chinese art as a youth. He also connects the significance behind hair to his relationship with Buddhism. For more on this piece, the artist's relationship with hair, and his artistic process and inspirations, see: (https://digital.kenyon.edu/zhoudocs/412/). (Nicole Wang '26).
