Description

Above a photograph capturing a moment of drug injection (abuse), a board scripting the phrase "Blood-Test, Everybody Could Be A Drug Addict" is illuminated in purple-white light. The top verge of the board is indented inward in to the back, creating a spatial frame for the slogan. The entire board, as well as its "frame", is covered in faux fur -- a flocculent, fluffy material -- rendering the whole word a dreamy impression (or hallucinatory, as the theme of the work hints us). When speaking on "Blood Test", WANG Guangyi says that the installation is a modern social critique: on the institution's distrust upon individuals on drug issues. "Blood-Test, Everybody Could Be A Drug Addict" -- the work's title could have succinctly communicated something an institution wants to conduct, out of skepticism with its citizens. The skepticism from society, the artist states, is gradually and invisibly traumatizing individuals and ruining the relationships among them.
