Description
Upon a traced duplicate of Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci's celebrated work "Mona Lisa (1503)", Chinese artist Shang superimposed various objects -- commercial plastic bags, advertisement flyers, food wrappings, Chinese festival accessories (the "Fu" paper cut), etc. The collaged objects give the Renaissance painting a decorative and modern cover -- much in the fashion of Patchwork Cloth (百衲布)(this textile practice, indeed, could be the inspiration of Shang's "Bride"). The spliced objects may play into Shang's symbolism for the Post-Modern societal structures -- different constituencies yet collaborate into an unison.
