Description
The painting sets in a stair-hall. And as the work's title tells us, the painting is likely to record the stair-hall at mid-night. By the right of composition, a stair extends upward to the following story. At the center, a squared space (perhaps a door or an entrance to another space) is painted almost in utterly black, concealing the end of it with a dark, mysterious shroud. The squared space serves as the picture's vanishing point, guiding the overall compositions to follow a rigorous linear perspective. By the left of the artwork, against a wall (presumably), parked a bicycle. The colors constituted the entire artwork are united and tonal: majorly only with white, grey and black. (Jerry Wu'23)
