Wang Gongxin’s multi-media installation, “Still Life,” incorporates two well-traveled suitcases: one held together by red striped straps, the other open with a similar strap sprawled out next to it. Inside the frontmost suitcase, which is filled with water, a small, green toy frog floats about. Inside the other suitcase, a loudspeaker plays a sound score of ocean waves. Wang has spent much of his career split between the two cities Beijing and Brooklyn, which are distanced by the ocean. This work is perhaps an allusion to his life, where he has found himself floating in a liminal space between these two worlds. (Russ, Hannah ‘18)
