Abstract
Liposome-encapsulated hemoglobin (LEH) has been investigated to potentially mitigate the adverse effects associated with hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) used as red blood cell substitutes. Usually, liposomes are synthesized in the laboratory from combinations of synthetic lipids. In this project, we aimed to extract native lipids from red blood cell membrane fragments and utilize these lipids to synthesize liposomes through a process called membrane extrusion.
