Abstract
The project allows users to track Hannibal’s life from his childhood in Carthage through his father’s conquest of Spain, to Hannibal’s astounding victories across Italy. Popup boxes allow users to read what happened at each location along the way. The mapping software Carto allowed me to import a basemap of and to easily lay and style points. To make the popup boxes and sidebar, I used the free mapping library Leaflet. Using these technologies to map Hannibal's journey allows us to understand this important period not only in its historical context, but also its geographical one. Thus in addition to helping students learn about the ancient world, it also helps them learn how to read and interact with maps.
