Scientific Kenyon: The Neuroscience Edition
Scientific Kenyon is an annual student-authored magazine produced by neuroscience seniors at Kenyon College, showcasing public-facing science writing alongside original student design and art. Conceived by Professor Hewlet McFarlane to bridge the gap between complex research and lay audiences, the publication stems from a senior seminar requirement where students translate intricate scientific concepts into accessible, engaging articles—explaining topics ranging from neuroprotective fungi to chronic pain treatments without relying on dense jargon. Evolving from a self-published campus initiative into a professionally printed and digitally archived journal, the publication highlights Kenyon's commitment to interdisciplinary communication, rigorous factual synthesis, and writing across the curriculum, preparing future scientists to connect meaningfully with the broader public.
