Volume 9, Issue 2 (2024) Autumn
Welcome! This issue focuses on new interpretations and approaches to understanding complicated imagery and thought. Gregor Von Kerssenbrock-Krosigk examines how dedication miniatures in Ottonian manuscripts reflects the intertwined goals of royalty and sacred power. Stephen Westich queries the absence of some expected forms and iconography and what it implies in the St. Alban’s Psalter. Alessandro Piana peels back layers of history to discuss the material culture around Othonis de Rocha in Athens and how the legend grew and continues to change today. Isabelle Ostertag, similarly, assembles the clues to how the cult of saints and the rise of Marian devotion affected monastic architecture at the Lady Chapel at St. Albans.
