Description
Note the radiating chapels and the corbels near the rooflines. The first Cistercian foundation in Spain, Moreruela was founded in 1133 by Alfonso VII with the wish to put land into farm production in the southern part of his kingdom. While mostly Romanesque, there are some transitional elements of the Gothic with pointed arches. There is very little decoration except for some plant forms found in the capitals. Some mason marks are still etched in the stones.
