Description
Campo Santo (Sacred Field), Pisa, 1277-1464, Late Gothic architecture, Italy. porch within the ogival round-headed arches and busts adorn the top of the pilasters. Supposed to contain soil brought back from the Holy Land, from the site of Golgotha. The walls of this porch were later decorated in the 14th century by the Pisa painter Francesco Traini with frescoes depicting the Triumph of Death.
