Editor of the N. York Observer-
I am reminded that the late battle of Chattanooga (Mission Ridge) was on the ground from which the Missionaries of the [American] Board, among the Cherokees, were expelled by the Georgia Authorities in 1832, when two of them were [unpursued]. The events connected with that outrage are as much forgotten by those who knew them then, while a whole generation has [risen] since, that knows nothing about them. A Revival of the history would be very interesting + needful just now in connection with anti-slavery showing what we bore with so long, from southern slave, [?] + what the slave power used to do.
I desire to suggest + urge that you produce that history in the Observer. I [the? sic] materials are no doubt near at hand.
Yours very truly
Chas.P.McIlvaine
